Utkal crowned East Zone Inter-Varsity cricket champs

Utkal University won eight matches in a row to emerge champions in the East Zone Inter-University Cricket Tournament, which was held at Bidyasagar University in Midnapore (West Bengal) from January 8 to 19, 2017. Utkal achieved this notable success after a gap of 16 years and qualified for the All-India Inter-University Tournament.

In the league round, Utkal beat FM University, defending champions VBS Purvanchal University and Swamy Vivekananda Technical University (Chhattisgarh). Utkal qualified for the league stage by winning all five of their knock-out matches. VBS Purvanchal University finished runners-up in the East Zone Tournament. Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Prof Ashok Kumar Das and the university Sports Council Director Prof Jayant Kumar Parida congratuladed the players and officials of the team for their creditable triumph.

Meanwhile, Ravenshaw University crashed out of the tournament after winning two matches. They defeated Banaras Hindu University by four wickets and TM Bhagalpur by two wickets.
